1.1 Introduction
HUAWEI EM660 EVDO PC Embedded Module (hereinafter referred to as the EM660)
is aWirelessWide Area Network (WWAN) PC module based on the CDMA2000 1x,
the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. 0, and the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A protocols. It is
a multi-mode wireless terminal for business professionals. In addition to messaging
services, the EM660 provides high-rate packet data services, supporting wireless
downloading at a speed as high as 3.1 Mbps and uploading at speed as high as 1.8
Mbps.

The EM660 supports the following standards:
l CDMA2000 1x
l CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev 0(EV-DOr0)
l CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A(EV-DOrA)
The EM660 provides the following services:
l CDMA2000 1x packet data service

1 Scope
This document describes the AT interface of Huawei UMTS Datacard/Modem. The
description on the AT interface is only limited to the interface packet itself, the usage
and use procedure of TE and MS, and does not cover the contents which are not
directly related to the interface.
1.1 Interface Overview
HUAWEI UMTS Datacard/Modem is a wireless terminal of the PCMCIA or Express or
USB interface. It is used together with PC to provide data service, voice and SMS
functions.
This document describes the AT interface. Therewith no description or definition
explain for the document interface, and no temporary support to all kinds of parameter
values, so no suggestion of usage.
In the subsequent AT command parameters, two formats are involved: <>, and [], as
described below:
<...> Parameters enclosed in angle brackets must be completed. Brackets
themselves do not appear in the command line.
[...] Optional subparameter of a command is enclosed in square brackets.
Brackets themselves do not appear in the command line or response.
<CR> Carriage return character, which value is specified with command S3.
<LF> Linefeed character, which value is specified with command S4.

1.2 Interface Design Principles
1) Each interface should be functionally convergent.
2) Since the AT command is a packet transmitted via communication port, the packet
size is limited. For the transmission of AT command, in addition to the two characters
“AT”, a maximum of 260 characters can be received (including the empty characters
at the end). For the “response” message or URC reported by the board, the maximum
length is limited to 668 characters.

3) Each command line can include only one AT command. For the URC instruction or
response reported from MS to TE, only one AT command is allowed in a command
line.
4) In order to make the commands and response formats more readable and
standard, except the original interfaces of Qualcomm, in all newly added interfaces,
e.g. no space can be contained in the commands such as AT^XXX: <arg0>, <arg1>, or
behind ^, colon or comma. No redundant space is allowed at the head or end.
5) After delivering each AT command, the TE cannot deliver the second AT
command until the MS has made response to this AT command. Otherwise, the
second AT command will not be executed.
6) For the AT command to which the response is given only after a long time, in order
to prevent interference on other events, it is recommended to report the final execution
result asynchronously. If the MS responds to the TE only after a long time of waiting,
e.g. the “AT+CCFC=?” command receives a response only after a long time after the
command is delivered, the MS may have received the reported instruction of RING on
this occasion. Namely, the reporting of RING may interrupt other responses, and other
URCs will not interrupt the response of command, and the interrupted part of the
response will continue being reported.
7) Unless otherwise specified, all default codes between TE and MS take on this
format: GSM 7 bit Default Alphabet. See also Section 6 in protocol 23.038. The
character @ is transmitted on the interface still according to 0x00 of 7bit coding. The
board software and API should be able to process this character. The board uploads
the carriage return character (<CR>) and linefeed character (<LF>) in the string in the
form of space.
8) a sort of compounding between quotation and comma can not exist in the string in
this current version. For the data format of UCS2 code, the code value should be
reported in the string format (if the code value is 0x553a, 553a should be reported).
9) The “Possible response” sent from MS to TE is composed of “Information text”
and “Result code”, where “Information text” is optional, and “Result code” is mandatory.
The format of “Possible response” is controlled by the ATV command, as detailed in
the ATV command description. All “Possible responses” listed in the tables in this
documents are in the ATV1 format.

Hardware Overview

The MU203 consists of three sections: baseband section and radio frequency (RF)
section and power manager (PM) section. External interfaces include the antenna
interface and the 60-pin BTB interface.

1.3.1 Hardware Logic Block Diagram
The MU203 is completed on a single-board. Figure 1-2 shows the hardware
functional block diagram.



The circuitry of MU203 consists of three sections: baseband section, RF section and
PM section.

 The baseband section includes the baseband processor, power management
and MCP. It implements baseband signals processing, wireless protocols,
management of various peripheral devices and providing the power supply and
power management for the whole module.

 The RF section includes the RF transceiver, PA, antenna switches, duplexer,
and antenna interfaces.

 The PM section providing the power supply and power management for the
whole module.

1.3.2 External Hardware Interfaces
1. Antenna interface
The MU203 has an antenna connector and an antenna pad. External antenna can be
connected via antenna connector or antenna pad, but both solutions can only be
applied alternatively. This means, whenever an antenna is plugged to the connector,
the pad must not be used. Vice versa, if the antenna is connected to the pad, then
the connector must be left empty.

Antenna connector
The antenna connector has been chosen as antenna reference point (ARP) for the
HUAWEI reference equipment submitted to type approve MU203. All RF data
specified throughout this datasheet are related to the ARP. For compliance with the
test results of the MU203 type approval you are advised to give priority to the
connector, rather than using the antenna pad. See Section 2.1.3 for details about
antenna connector.
Antenna Pad
When you decide to use the antenna pad take into account that the pad has not been
intended as antenna reference point (ARP) for the type approval. Also, consider that
50Ω connector is mandatory for type approval measurements. This requires user
devices with an integral antenna to be temporarily equipped with a suitable connector
or a low loss RF cable with adapter.
To prevent damage to the module and to obtain long-term solder joint properties you
are advised to maintain the standards of good engineering practice for soldering. Be
sure to solder the antenna core to the pad and the shielding of the coax cable to the
ground plane of the module next to the antenna pad. The direction of the cable is not
relevant from the electrical point of view.
2. BTB connector interface
The MU203 provide a 60-pin male BTB connector interface.
− USIM interface: The USIM interface provides the interface for a USIM card.
The USIM card can be inserted into the host side.
− USB interface: The USB interface supports USB 2.0 full speed standard.
− UART interface: The module supports 3-line or full serial port interface.
− Analog voice interface: The module supports two analog audio interfaces,
each with a microphone input and an analog earpiece output.
− Power sources and grounds: 3.8V recommended, voltage range is 3.3V~4.2V.
